In 1999, while on his deathbed, mind empowerment pioneer Jose Silva created the Mental Video Technique as his final gift to the world before passing. Despite empowering millions of people to improve their lives through his renowned Silva Method, he considered this technique to be his most powerful one.
The technique is designed to unlock our mind’s power to solve any problem we encounter in life. Whether it’s grappling with a tough decision, financial worries, a health issue, relationship troubles, or any other problem for which we lack a clear solution. This guide will provide you with everything you need to know about the Mental Video Technique and how to use it to solve problems in your life.

Jose Silva, among many others, believed in the existence of a higher power or source intelligence guiding our lives. The purpose of the Mental Video Technique is to establish a channel for communication with this higher power, whatever form it may take for you – be it God, the universe, source energy, or any other concept of divinity. It’s a beacon of hope when you’re at a loss, seeking guidance from a higher source, particularly in times of uncertainty or difficulty.
By practicing the Mental Video Technique, we cultivate the ability to tap into this higher intelligence for answers to life’s challenges.

As bedtime approaches, it’s time for the second phase. Before going to sleep, sit up in your bed, close your eyes, and get into a relaxed state of mind. The aim here is to access the Alpha brainwave level, which is the state of relaxed alertness typically experienced during meditation.
There are numerous ways to access Alpha, with one notable method taught by Jose Silva in the Silva Method. Here are the quick steps:
Keep in mind, this is just a suggested way to enter a relaxed state. If you are an experienced meditator, you can simply get relaxed in any way that works for you.
While still in the alpha state, replay the same mental video of your problem that you created earlier in the day for a third time. Visualize the scene in your mind, focusing on the details and emotions depicted in your video. Engage your senses fully and immerse yourself in the experience.
After reviewing that video, visualize passing the mental video to higher intelligence for this all-knowing power to resolve it. Use your imagination to symbolize its transfer, whether its ejecting the movie from a DVD player and offering it up to higher intelligence, seeing the movie vanish into the ether as it is released into the universe, or any other symbolic act of release.
After relinquishing the problem to higher intelligence, it’s time to visualize the problem as fully resolved.
Create a new mental video detailing the ideal end result to your problem, seeing this outcome as if it has already been achieved.
In the Silva Method, Silva instructors emphasize visualizing the solution unfolding in a step-by-step process.
Why a step-by-step process?
Consider a problem like feeling stuck in your job and wanting to start your own business but being unsure if you should take the risk. In this step, you might envision your final result as doing work you love doing every day and all the steps that led you to that outcome. So for example, you could see yourself enrolling in a business class that really inspires you. Then maybe you start a side hustle and land your first clients. Then maybe you see yourself resigning from your job gracefully, confidently, and excited about the next chapter you are embarking on.
The aim is to visualize as many of the details and preconditions of your ideal result as you can, even if you’re unsure of the exact path to get there.
After creating the mental video of your solution, hand it over to higher intelligence, just as you did in Step 6, trusting it will guide you toward the desired outcome.
Now that the visualization portion of the technique is completed, you must go directly to sleep. Do not stay awake and watch TV. Do not go on your phone and check your email. Do not try to spoon with your partner.
This is a crucial aspect of the technique because we are tapping into the Delta brainwave level, associated with creative potential and enhanced receptivity to higher intelligence — which can only be accessed during sleep. According to Jose Silva, Delta serves as a doorway to higher realms of consciousness, where profound insights can be accessed to help us solve our problems.
Over the next three days, Jose Silva advises to be on the lookout for any indications that the problem is beginning to resolve itself or insights that may lead to a solution.
