6 questions to ask yourself to better understand what you are feeling. While asking each question stay in tune with the unpleasantness: anger, anxiety, hurt, shame, etc.
This is a simple exercise you can do to explore what you are feeling. It can be done by finding a quiet place and closing your eyes and running through the questions in your mind. It also works great as a journaling exercise.
This a quick checklist to run through when something out of your control happens in your life: i.e. your car breaks down, you lose your job, your business tanks, your marriage fails, etc. This is for when the unexpected happens and greatly inconveniences and disrupts your life.
If so what emotion would best serve you in this situation?
Can you switch to gratitude? Is there an opportunity to find something to be grateful for from this event or situation?
Meaning, what (if anything) can you do to make the situation better? Consider what you directly have control over to move forward.
These are 6 simple questions to ask yourself when unpleasant emotions are triggered. Their purpose is to help you get at the crux of why you are feeling the way you are. Ask them while you are in a state of anger, anxiety, or frustration.
Ask yourself these 5 questions when you just came out of a highly-charged confrontation with someone and they said or did something to you that caused you to feel angry, hurt, upset, etc. These questions can help you process what you are feeling.
