Everything I Believed About The Universe Has Been Shattered By The Horror In Israel

I may be somewhat out of touch.

But I can’t truly grasp the magnitude of what has happened in Israel. I know horrors like this have been going on across the planet since the beginning of time, but this one is hitting me hard. Life is our greatest gift but in times like these, it becomes all the more apparent that the world can be so beautiful and wondrous, yet so heartbreaking all at once.

Call me a dreamer at heart.

I hold fast to the belief that we exist within and were created by a Universe characterized by boundless, unconditional love — and that each of us is an expression of that love. To me, the concept of what we call “God” or “the creator” simply embodies this very love. I believe we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, temporarily occupying this physical dimension, for our soul to learn lessons; to rediscover our true nature — to remember that love is who and what we really are.

I’m a big believer that everyone has a distinct life journey and destiny.

I believe that everything in life transpires for a reason and that there is a lesson behind everything. Even amid the most traumatic of experiences, life strives to impart lessons upon us for growth and wisdom, pointing us to remember our true essence of love.

But after this week, I don’t know anymore.

Everything I once held true about how the Universe works has gone out the window. I can’t fathom the lesson here. I can’t possibly understand what the Universe is up to.

Why must some of us endure such horrors?

Why must lives be extinguished in such cruel ways? Why did they have to go through this in their journey? I can’t fathom the lesson this incident is giving their souls and the souls of their loved ones.

It doesn’t make sense or seem fair.

Among the countless heart-wrenching stories, one particularly has lingered with me. It’s the story of a couple in their seventies, savoring the twilight of their lives. The husband, shot dead while attempting to shield their home from the terrorists, and the wife, pulled through the window and kidnapped on a motorbike. The image of her being whisked away and having to hold onto the thugs who killed her husband to avoid falling off the motorbike while the onlooking terrorists cheered is forever etched in my mind.

What was the supposed “grand life lesson” for this couple?

Their granddaughter described them as “ordinary people enjoying the later stages of life.” Like the countless others and everyone in history for that matter, who met a cruel and inhumane end to their lives, what possible lesson were their souls trying to teach them? Why did they have to experience their lives come to an end like this?

Again, I ask what is the Universe or whatever powers that govern all of creation up to?

What is the point?

It’s weeks like this that I can understand why people doubt the existence of a God or a higher power. It’s weeks like this that I can understand why you might call me crazy when I say I believe we live in and were created by a Universe of unconditional love.

It’s weeks like this that make me question everything I thought I had figured out about life and existence.
