Taking The High Road Is Your Most Powerful Position Of All

If you have been a reader of this blog for some time, you might have noticed how much a fan I am of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza.

Dr. Joe’s teachings are life-changing and Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself is one of the best personal growth books on creating real lasting change in your life.

If I were to read only one book over and over again for the rest of my life, it would be this one.

It really has changed the way I live!

I want to share a short video featuring many amazing insights Dr. Joe shared in an interview he did a few years back.

It beautifully sums up the idea of breaking the habit of being yourself.

Here is a quick snippet from the video:

“The brain is a record of the past. And each one of those past memories has an emotion. Emotions are the end product of past experiences.

How you think and how you feel creates your state of being. So when your entire state of being is in the past, the familiar past will sooner or later become the predictable future.”

Meaning the way we think, feel, and act are all programmed based on our past experiences and we can’t create any meaningful change in our lives without getting out of “the known.”

Which are all the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are on auto-pilot.

But we have the ability to create our future by becoming aware of these patterns and through the active intention of breaking the habit of being ourselves!

Here is a quick story from my life that relates to this.

Traveling the High Road

I came across this short blog post that featured an inspiring quote from an unknown source.

The author of this blog post, Jessi Kohlhagen when onto further point out:

The high road is the most powerful position of all — the low road never leads us to the destination we desire.

This post really resonated with me and reminded me of “breaking the habit of being myself.”

For me, taking the high road can be a struggle.

It’s an area of personal growth that I put a lot of intentionality towards.

And after reading Dr. Joe’s book I became inspired more than ever to actively work on breaking this habit:

Letting go of the need to be right and prove a point when someone challenges me, calls me out, or is hostile with me and maintain my inner state of peace and calm.

And the tools and practices in Dr. Joe’s book have greatly helped me to begin to do this more and more.

However, as human beings I think it’s one of our great internal struggles…

To remain calm and loving when you feel like you are being attacked.

On the flip side though, I believe it is one of the highest states of being we can aspire to and one of the greatest qualities we can cultivate in ourselves:

The ability to not blindly react, become impulsive and fall under our conditioned trance of having to defend ourselves.

To be able to consciously choose peace and take the high road…

Which like the author of the blog post mentions, it’s our most powerful position of all.

It’s far from easy but it’s worth the commitment to break the habit of being ourselves.
